The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its SpaDeX mission using the PSLV rocket. The launch took place precisely at 10 PM from Sriharikota. This operation has been named SpaDeX.

According to ISRO’s statement after the launch, this mission marks a milestone in India’s space operations. In this mission, two satellites were docked and undocked in space.

The success of this mission is seen as a step towards fulfilling India’s dreams of missions like Chandrayaan-4, its own space station, and sending an Indian astronaut to the Moon, ISRO officials said.

The Mission Details:

The PSLV rocket carried two spacecrafts—Spacecraft A (SDX01) and Spacecraft B (SDX02). They were placed in orbit, about 5 kilometers apart. Following this, ISRO’s scientists attempted to bring the spacecrafts within 3 meters of each other. At an altitude of about 470 kilometers above Earth, the two spacecrafts docked together, a process referred to as “docking.” Afterward, the two satellites were undocked, marking the successful completion of the mission.

Background and Significance of the SpaDeX Mission:

This mission is a significant achievement in India’s space program, as India had not previously conducted such an experiment. If successful, India would join a select group of countries capable of such space operations. Prior to this, only the United States, China, and Russia had successfully achieved such feats.

The SpaDeX mission aims to establish India’s capability in orbital docking, an essential technology for future human space missions and satellite servicing operations. This is considered a critical technology for the future of space operations.
