A new Prime Minister will be elected on March 24.

Summary:

Anita Anand, who has been serving as the Minister of Transportation in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s cabinet, is being strongly considered for the position of Prime Minister. With Prime Minister Trudeau’s resignation on Monday, it has become necessary to elect a new leader.

Trudeau, who has held the position for nearly ten years, faced internal opposition within his own party, leading to this development. However, the Liberal Party has announced that Trudeau will continue as Prime Minister until a new one is chosen. This has started the speculation about who the next Prime Minister of Canada will be.

The new Prime Minister will be chosen on March 24. Along with Anita Anand, other names in the race include Dominic LeBlanc, Chrystia Freeland, Mélanie Joly, François-Philippe Champagne, and Marc Garneau.

Anita Anand, a senior member of the Liberal Party, has been serving as a Member of Parliament since 2019. She has effectively handled portfolios in public services, recruitment, and national defense. She has also served as the chair of the Treasury Board and has been Minister of Transportation and Internal Trade since 2024.

Born on May 20, 1967, to Indian immigrant parents, Saroj D. Ram and S.V. Anand, who were both doctors, Anita Anand was raised with strong values and professional ethics. She was born in Nova Scotia and moved to Ontario in 1985.

Anita, 57, graduated from Oxford University. She was previously an MP for Oakville. Anand holds a degree in Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Oxford University. She also holds a law degree and a Master’s degree from Dalhousie University and the University of Toronto. She has worked as a lecturer in various places, including Yale Law School. Anita resides in Oakville with her husband John and their four children.
