Champions Trophy 2025: Due to an Emergency, Team India’s Bowling Coach Returns Home!

Morne Morkel, the 40-year-old former South African fast bowler who was appointed as the bowling coach in September last year, had traveled to Dubai with the Indian team on Saturday.

Dubai: Due to a family emergency, Team India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel has returned to his home in South Africa, reliable sources confirmed on Tuesday.

Morkel, who was appointed as the bowling coach in September last year, had traveled to Dubai with the Indian team on Saturday. He was present with the team for their first practice match before the ICC Champions Trophy, which starts on Wednesday. However, he was not present during the second practice session held on Monday.

On Thursday, Team India will play against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Following this, the bowling coach has returned home.

Currently, India’s bowling squad includes experienced fast bowlers and an all-rounder in Hardik Pandya. Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. The Indian fast-bowling duties are being handled by Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Mohammed Shami.

This year, Pakistan is hosting the ICC event, and the tournament will follow a hybrid model. For security reasons, India will play all its matches in Dubai. The highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan match will take place on Sunday (Feb 23).

The first semifinal will be held on March 4 in Dubai, and if India qualifies, the final will also be played in Dubai on March 9.
