“You will be responsible for the election results”: Mallikarjun Kharge warns Congress leaders

“The party must strengthen itself from the grassroots level, and those committed to the organization must be encouraged,” says Mallikarjun Kharge.
New Delhi: After the Congress party’s poor performance in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly elections, with the party failing to secure any seats, there have been critiques regarding the party’s loss. In light of this, AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge convened a meeting of the party’s General Secretaries and State In-Charges, where he issued a warning that they would be held accountable for future election results.
The meeting took place at the party’s headquarters, Indira Bhavan, where Kharge addressed the newly appointed office-bearers. He emphasized that the party leadership must work at the grassroots level, strengthen the party at the booth level, and motivate those who are ideologically committed to the organization. He mentioned that some changes have already taken place, and more are to follow.
“I want to speak to you about the crucial matter of responsibility. You will all be held accountable for rejuvenating the party in the states and for the results of all upcoming elections,” Kharge warned the office-bearers.
The Congress party had recently appointed new office-bearers, and the meeting was attended by former Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with all the General Secretaries and State In-Charges.
Kharge also stated, “You are responsible for strengthening the party from the booth level to the central office. We must bring those who have ideological commitment to stand by the party, especially in tough times. We must keep away from those who abandon the party during difficult times, only to return in a hurry when things get better.”
He reiterated that the party needs to focus on public interest issues over the next five years and work towards making the Congress the primary opposition party in Delhi.
Kharge also criticized the government’s handling of issues, stating that the Prime Minister has failed to prevent the humiliation faced by Indian citizens deported from the U.S. He accused the Prime Minister of failing to oppose the tariffs imposed on India by the U.S., describing it as an insult to the nation and all Indians.
Regarding the Delhi election results, the BJP returned to power after 26 years, winning 48 out of 70 seats. The AAP won 22 seats, while the Congress was left with zero seats. Kharge, while acknowledging the difficulties faced by the state’s leadership, urged the party to focus on the future and emphasized the need to engage with issues that resonate with the public.
