Tesla’s Entry into India: Will it Be Unfair to America? Donald Trump Raises Concerns

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has raised concerns over Tesla’s potential entry into India, particularly if the company sets up a manufacturing plant in the country to avoid tariffs. According to Trump, such a move could be unfair to the U.S.
This statement comes amid ongoing discussions about increasing tariffs. On February 13, ahead of bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House, Trump announced that both countries would impose tariffs on each other.
In a recent interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Trump claimed that India imposes the highest tariffs in the world. He suggested that selling cars in India would be nearly impossible for Elon Musk and Tesla due to these high tariffs.
“Every country in the world is benefiting from us. They are doing it through tariffs. Practically speaking, selling cars in India is not feasible,” Trump said. “If Musk builds a factory in India, that’s fine, but it is unfair to us. It’s very unfair,” he added.
Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, was also present during the interview. A few days earlier, Tesla had opened recruitment for various positions in India, such as business analysts and customer support specialists. This move is being seen as the company’s entry into the Indian market.
According to job postings on Tesla’s website, the roles are located in the “Mumbai Suburban” area. Musk, during his recent conversation with Modi, had stated, “If you impose 100% tariffs, we will do the same.” In response, Musk agreed that a 100% tariff on auto imports would be the right approach.
