Air India Plane Crash: 6 Bodies Identified; Handed Over to Families

Ahmedabad – An Air India flight crashed near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday, killing a total of 265 people, including 241 passengers and crew, with only one passenger surviving.
Following the tragedy, at least 265 bodies were sent to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for post-mortem examinations. Inspector Chirag Gosai stated that only six bodies could be identified as their faces remained intact.
He added that DNA profiling is being conducted to confirm the identities of the remaining victims, as the bodies were charred beyond recognition.
Prime Minister Modi Responds After Visiting Ahmedabad: “We are deeply shocked by the air tragedy”
“We have handed over six bodies to their families. The process of collecting DNA samples from the relatives of the deceased has begun so that the unidentified bodies can be matched and identified. So far, relatives of 215 victims have contacted us to provide their DNA samples,” said Inspector Gosai, who is supervising the post-mortem procedures.
Details are being collected from the relatives arriving at the mortuary, and they are being sent to BJ Medical College to provide their DNA samples, he added.
“It will take about 72 hours to complete the DNA matching process. Once the match is confirmed, the bodies will be handed over to the respective families from the mortuary,” the Inspector stated.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner (Flight AI 171), which was carrying 242 people including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, crashed into the medical college complex in the Meghaninagar area just moments after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday afternoon.
