Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti and Governor Sheikh Jafar Khan Mandokhail attended the funeral prayers for soldiers who lost their lives, alongside the Army Chief.
Islamabad: Baloch separatists have dealt heavy blows to the Pakistani Army, with 41 people, including Pakistani soldiers, killed in just 24 hours.
The situation in Balochistan, where clashes between the Pakistani Army and separatists have escalated, has resulted in at least 41 deaths, including 18 security personnel and 23 insurgents, according to the Pakistani Army. The military’s report claims these casualties were largely among Pakistani soldiers and militants.
Pakistan Losing Control in Balochistan:
The Pakistani Army is reportedly losing its grip on Balochistan, with separatists gaining ground. The recent violence, which led to the death of 41 individuals in 24 hours, is seen as a testament to this. The Pakistani military also reported that at least 18 security personnel and 23 insurgents were killed in clashes in the southwestern province of Balochistan. Various areas of Balochistan saw militant casualties, according to the army’s statement.
In one such operation on Saturday in the Harnai district, the Pakistani Army successfully confronted militants, killing 11 insurgents and destroying multiple militant hideouts. On Friday night, 12 militants were killed as security forces foiled an attempt by insurgents to set up roadblocks in the Kalat district.
Army Chief Visits Balochistan:
Amid growing setbacks in Balochistan, Pakistan’s Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir visited the province on Saturday. During his visit, he was briefed on the current security situation in the region, which involved senior security and intelligence officials. The Associated Press of Pakistan reported that the Army Chief also attended the funeral of soldiers and visited the Combined Military Hospital in Quetta to meet injured personnel.
In a statement, General Munir warned that no matter the actions of the “insurgents,” Pakistan’s armed forces and the nation’s integrity would remain steadfast. He assured that the military’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the people of Balochistan would never waver.
I appeal to the Associated Press @AP not to label #Baloch #Sarmchars, who are freedom fighters, as terrorists but to recognize the #Pakistani #military as an organized terrorist force. Historically, the Pakistani state, through its army, forcibly occupied Balochistan—an… pic.twitter.com/gZCg0jZv4f

Escalating Violence in Balochistan:
Balochistan, which is Pakistan’s largest province by area, has been witnessing regular attacks by insurgents. Despite the province’s rich resources, it remains one of the least developed regions. The violence has intensified following the breakdown of a weak ceasefire agreement between the Pakistani government and the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group. Over the past decade, Pakistan has witnessed significant terrorist attacks, with at least 685 security personnel losing their lives in 444 attacks, making 2024 one of the deadliest years for Pakistan’s civilian and military forces.
