Grand Opening of Mahakumbh Tomorrow: Devotees Gathering for ‘Amrit Snan’ on Maha Shivaratri, 64 Crore Devotees Have Already Bathed for Punya Snan!

Prayagraj: The 45-day Mahakumbh festival will have its grand opening tomorrow. With Maha Shivaratri falling on the same day, millions of devotees are arriving at Triveni Sangam for the sacred bath. As a result, from 6 PM today, heavy restrictions on vehicle traffic have been imposed in Prayagraj. However, essential vehicles such as those carrying milk, vegetables, medicines, petrol/diesel, ambulances, and government vehicles (doctors, police, administration) have been granted exemptions by the district administration.
Before the grand event concludes, there is already heavy footfall at Triveni Sangam for the Amrit Snan on Maha Shivaratri day. To manage the crowd and traffic, authorities have imposed vehicle parking restrictions around the fairgrounds from 4 PM Tuesday. To avoid congestion at major pilgrimage sites, devotees are encouraged to bathe at nearby ghats and pray at nearby Shiva temples. Authorities have requested devotees to avoid unnecessary travel. After completing their religious rituals, they have been advised to return to their respective locations immediately.
Devotees have been asked to follow the guidelines and assist in maintaining peace during the significant religious event. This Mahakumbh Mela, held after a 12-year gap, began on January 13 and will conclude tomorrow. According to official figures, over 640 million devotees have already bathed at the Sangam. Maha Shivaratri is a significant spiritual moment, and the number is expected to exceed 660 million.
Over the past 10 days, more than 12.5 million devotees from across the country and abroad have been taking the holy bath daily at Sangam. Each Amrit Snan during the Mahakumbh has seen more than 25 million devotees immersing themselves at Triveni Sangam. Moreover, there have been over a dozen instances where the number of devotees at the Sangam exceeded 15 million.
