Direct Flights Resume Between India and China After Five Years!

New Delhi: India and China have agreed to resume direct flight services that were suspended following the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
The decision to restart direct air services, which had been on hold for five years due to the pandemic and subsequent political tensions, marks a significant step in restoring connectivity between the two nations. Discussions also led to an agreement to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra starting this summer.
India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with China’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Foreign Minister in Beijing, engaging in extensive discussions on various issues. The foreign ministries of both countries confirmed that the decision was finalized during talks between the respective foreign secretaries. It was agreed that necessary arrangements would be made in line with existing agreements.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
Talks also addressed stabilizing and rebuilding bilateral relations. During a meeting in Kazan last October, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping had agreed to expedite formalities, which paved the way for the latest secretary-level discussions.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Resumes
Both nations agreed to resume the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage, which was halted in 2020 due to COVID-19 and the strained relations that followed. The pilgrimage to Tibet’s sacred Kailash Mountain and Mansarovar Lake, a significant spiritual journey for many, will now restart this summer.
This development reflects the commitment of both countries to take concrete, people-centric steps to restore trust and cooperation.
