A catastrophic plane accident was narrowly avoided at Los Angeles International Airport due to a close call between two aircraft. A Delta Airlines flight came dangerously close to colliding with a plane carrying the Gonzaga University basketball team.

Washington: Just a week after plane crashes in South Korea and Kazakhstan, another potential disaster was averted in the United States at the last moment.

At Los Angeles International Airport, a major aviation disaster was narrowly avoided when a Delta Airlines flight came very close to crashing into a chartered plane carrying the Gonzaga University basketball team. However, thanks to the pilots’ quick thinking and emergency braking, a potential disaster was averted.

At around 4:30 PM local time, a chartered flight from Gonzaga, Key Lime Air Flight 563, was taxiing on the runway when a Delta Flight 471, an Airbus A321 headed for Atlanta, was rapidly accelerating towards takeoff.

This caused momentary panic and fear among the passengers. As the planes came closer, passengers on board began shouting “Stop… Stop… Stop!” The pilot of the chartered plane, carrying basketball players, immediately engaged the emergency brake, slowing down in time to avoid a collision.

The speed of the plane was brought under control, and the Delta flight successfully and safely took off. A video of this incident is now going viral.

The video captured the Airbus A321, Delta Flight 471, accelerating rapidly towards takeoff as it approached the runway, just moments before a private jet came to an abrupt halt. The shocking scene was recorded by passengers at the airport on their mobile phones.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident, with air traffic controllers confirming that they had instructed the Gonzaga plane to stop slightly off the runway as the Delta flight approached. As the private jet continued moving forward, air traffic controllers ordered the pilot of the chartered plane to stop.

Despite the tense moments, the chartered Embraer ERJ-135 jet did not experience any delay and continued its journey as scheduled, while the Delta flight took off safely.

This comes just days after a tragic plane crash in South Korea on Sunday, where 179 people were killed when the Jeju Air flight crashed into a terminal at Jeju Airport. Prior to this, a plane crash in Kazakhstan resulted in the deaths of 38 people.
