India-France Joint Cooperation on N-reactors and AI Development: PM Modi and President Macron’s Decision

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of nuclear energy and artificial intelligence (AI) during a meeting to solidify their strategic partnership.
The two countries will collaborate on developing Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs). They will also work together to develop safe and reliable AI. France has already announced plans to invest 110 billion euros in AI.
To support the economic development of both countries, Modi and Macron have agreed on a joint declaration focused on “triangular development” with the goal of increasing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

After Paris, the two leaders visited Marseille, France’s second most populous city, where Macron hosted a private dinner for Modi. They later jointly inaugurated the Indian Consulate General office and visited the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) facility.
SMRs and AMRs have gained significant attention recently, advancing at a rapid pace. The two countries believe that there are real possibilities for further development in this area. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri informed the media in Marseille that both nations are optimistic about the future of these technologies.
The demand for SMRs and AMRs is identified as crucial, especially for AI, which requires a significant amount of electricity. If this power is to be sustainable, it must come from nuclear-powered energy sources. SMRs and AMRs are seen as playing a major role in this regard.
