Rome: Pope Francis’ health has worsened after battling pneumonia for two weeks, with the pontiff reportedly vomiting occasionally due to coughing. The Vatican has announced that Pope Francis is now facing breathing difficulties and has been placed on a ventilator for support.
The 88-year-old Pope is awake and responding well to treatment, maintaining a good level of oxygen exchange. He continues to wear a mask for additional oxygen, according to a statement from the Vatican.
In the early afternoon, his health deteriorated further due to the respiratory issues. Doctors will monitor his condition closely over the next 24 to 48 hours to assess whether the situation will worsen.

Since February 14, Pope Francis has been receiving treatment at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome. As a young man, he had part of his lung removed due to a respiratory illness. He has now developed pneumonia in both lungs, aggravated by bronchitis.

Having been in the hospital for over two weeks, Pope Francis is now facing severe breathing difficulties. Dr. John Coleman, a critical care pulmonologist at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, told the Associated Press that the Pope may require even more artificial respiratory support in the coming days.
