Maharashtra: Suspected GBS Cases Rise to 4; Total Infections Reach 140

Maharashtra: The number of suspected deaths due to Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological disorder, has risen to four in Maharashtra as of Friday, with the total number of reported cases reaching 140, according to health officials.
A 36-year-old man passed away on Thursday at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, located within the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits, due to “respiratory failure caused by pneumonia-induced shock.”
The fourth suspected victim was a 60-year-old man from Dhayari, Sinhagad Road, Pune. He was admitted to the hospital on January 27 after experiencing limb weakness and fatigue. According to Pune Municipal Corporation’s health department, he succumbed to cardiac arrest.

GBS Syndrome Cases in Maharashtra
According to state health officials, out of the 140 suspected cases, 98 have been confirmed as GBS.
The official report states:
- 26 cases are from Pune city
- 78 cases are from newly merged villages in the PMC area
- 15 cases are from Pimpri Chinchwad
- 10 cases are from Pune rural areas
- 11 cases are from other districts
- As of Friday (January 31), no new cases have been reported.
