Team India’s shocking defeat; Is Rohit Sharma set to retire from Test cricket soon?

According to a report by the Times of India, Team India captain Rohit Sharma is reportedly preparing to announce his retirement after the ongoing five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia. The report suggests that senior BCCI officials and selectors have already discussed this decision, and it appears unlikely that Rohit will change his mind. He is expected to announce his retirement after the final Test match in Sydney.
However, it is also speculated that if India qualifies for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, Rohit may try to persuade the selectors to allow him to continue playing.
India suffered a humiliating defeat in the fourth Test match in Melbourne. Following the loss, Rohit Sharma expressed his deep frustration. Speaking to the media after the match, Rohit said, “We are very disappointed. Our goal was not to lose. The batting failure has been a big mental challenge, and this has brought a lot of disappointment. As a team, we need to address several issues. Personally, I also need to perform better. A draw would have been better for us.”

In three Tests and six innings, Rohit Sharma has scored only 31 runs. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah has taken 30 wickets in the series. Fans and cricket enthusiasts are frustrated with Rohit’s poor performance, and there are growing calls for him to retire from Test cricket.
