America: TikTok Goes Offline Before Ban on Video Sharing App

New York: Before the federal law banning the popular social media platform goes into effect, TikTok’s app has been removed from major app stores.
As of around 10:50 PM IST last night, the app was no longer available on Apple and Google app stores. Under the law, TikTok’s Chinese parent company ByteDance was required to either sell the platform or face a ban in the US.
Last evening, when users opened the TikTok app, they encountered a pop-up message preventing them from scrolling through videos. The message stated that the law to ban TikTok had been enacted in the US, and that users would no longer be able to access the app.
TikTok has gone offline across the United States as of today, following the implementation of a ban-or-divest law targeting ByteDance.
