The IPL (Indian Premier League) was launched in 2008 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), under the leadership of then-chairman Lalit Modi. The tournament was won by Rajasthan Royals under the captaincy of Shane Warne, who led the team to victory in a thrilling final against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Brendon McCullum’s explosive knock of 158 in the first match remains one of the iconic moments in IPL history.
The inaugural IPL season was a huge success, attracting massive viewership, media attention, and significant financial backing, laying the foundation for what would become one of the world’s most popular and lucrative cricket leagues.

Sunil Narine is the only foreign player to be in this list with earnings ₹125.25 crores.
