New Delhi: A statement made by former Australian cricketer Simon Katich regarding Virat Kohli’s dismissal on the fifth day of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne has now gone viral.
In the second innings of the fourth Test, Kohli was out for just 5 runs, and Katich said, “The king is dead.” On the final day of the Melbourne Test, India had a target of 340 runs to win. Virat Kohli was expected to play a key role in either winning or drawing the game for India. However, in the first session of the final day, the star batsman got out due to his weakness. Kohli’s persistent struggle with deliveries outside the off-stump became a major issue in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Mitchell Starc dismissed Kohli in the second innings. Indian fans were left deeply disappointed with Kohli’s dismissal.

Simon Katich, commenting on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for SEN Radio, stated that when Kohli got out, “The king is dead.” He added, “Kohli has once again disappointed. This could have been a big innings for him, but he failed to live up to the expectations. Australia is very pleased with their current position.”

After Kohli’s dismissal, India decided to aim for a draw. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant kept India safe from any losses until the tea break. It seemed that India might manage to draw the match. However, after tea, Travis Head dismissed Rishabh Pant, and India started losing ground.
Following that, India faced a setback and lost seven wickets in the final session. India eventually lost by 184 runs in Melbourne. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, Team India is currently 1-2 down in the series, and reaching the WTC Final now seems highly challenging for them.
